San Mateo County Commissions and Boards that have seats for Youth Commissioners
Want to have your voice heard as a representative of youth in San Mateo County? Want to advise county officials and advocate for change? There are a variety of Boards and
Commissions needing youth representation, so you can find one that fits your interests:
Commission on Disabilities: discusses issues and problems that affect people with
disabilities, such as discrimination, accessibility, and community participation. Meets 4th Thursday of each month from 3-5 pm in San Mateo.
Commission on the Status of Women: promotes changes that meet the needs of women, girls and families, including expanding opportunities for education and employment and
addressing gender discrimination. Meets 4th Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:30 pm in San Mateo.
First 5 San Mateo County Commission: works to expand and improve early childhood
services so that all children can have an equal opportunity for healthy development and
future success. Meets 4th Mondays of each month from 4-6 pm in San Mateo.
Mental Health Board: evaluates the needs of individuals with mental health problems in
order to provide assistance and resources and eliminate negative attitudes toward mental illness. Meets 1st Wednesday of each month from 3-5 pm in San Mateo.
Peninsula Partnership Leadership Council: a group of influential leaders from different fields who work to improve the lives of children, youth and families in San Mateo County. Meets 2nd Thursday of each month from 3:30-5:30 pm in San Mateo.
Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission: monitors the juvenile justice
system and tries to prevent crime, violence, and imprisonment among young people. Meets last Tuesday of each month from 5-7 pm in San Mateo.
Alcohol and Other Drug Steering Committee: tackles issues related to alcohol and drugs,
including prevention efforts and treatment programs. Meets 5 times per year (dates vary) from 3-4:30 pm in Foster City.
Pride Initiative: addresses problems that affect the LGBTQQI community, including
promoting inclusiveness and equality of LGBTQQI individuals. Meeting days, times, and
locations vary.
Parks and Recreation Commission: guides the Parks Department on issues including
parkland use, acquisitions and development of land, recreational use of County parks, and permits and fees. Meets 1st Thursday of each month from 2:30-4:30 pm in Redwood City.
Fatherhood Collaborative Advisory Board: believes in and supports the involvement of men and fathers in the lives of their children and families. Meets 1st Thursday of each month from 12-2 pm in San Mateo.
Domestic Violence Council: deals with domestic violence and relationship abuse, with a
focus on preventing violence and encouraging healthy relationships. Meets one Thursday per month from 3-4:30 pm in Redwood City.
