2010-2011 Policy Track Project

The Policy Track is a collaboration of Youth Commissioners working together on a pressing issue that they see affecting the youth in the San Mateo community. This year, the Policy Track decided to do a project raising awareness of alcohol abuse in teens. They did this by creating an audio documentary entitled “A Temporary Happiness.” The following introduction is taken from the Information Packet accompanying the Policy Track Project:

Alcohol abuse is a prominent issue in the adolescent community, and the Policy Track felt that it was necessary to hear the stories of teenagers of San Mateo County who were exposed to and began drinking alcohol at a young age. Several Policy Track members have interviewed several adolescents and recorded their tales. The Policy Track hopes that through the information we gathered you will learn about why teenagers decide to turn to alcohol as a means of temporary happiness. The Policy Track hopes to inspire further discussion and action regarding prevention of alcohol abuse.
