Youth Development Initiative

The Youth Development Initiative of San Mateo County (YDI) is dedicated to helping bridge the gap between youth and adults. We realize that youth have valuable skills and opinions that need to be heard. We believe that adults help to build strengths for youth, such as values, personal passions, and supportive relationships.

Youth Development is a movement to create a fundamental shift in how we all think and interact with young people in our communities.

Our mission is to bring youth and adults together to provide the supports and opportunities that young people in San Mateo County need to thrive.

We work within the context of the 41 Developmental Assets. We have diverse programs but we all focus on the following assets:

Other Adult Relationships
Community Values Youth
Youth as Resources
Planning and Decision Making
Personal Power

YDI is a project of Youth and Family Enrichment Services. For more information about the organization, please contact www.yfes.org.

What is the Be the Difference campaign?

We believe that as an adult role model, you play an integral role in helping our younger generations be successful. Substantial research on developmental assets for youth ground these convictions. Please take a moment to find out more about being the difference with the youth in your community.
